The End of the Road Appears for 12th Gen Intel Alder Lake Processors

Intel has confirmed the initiation of the discontinuance process for its 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" desktop processors with newly published PCN documents. The notifications, dated January 6, 2026, cover specific 12th Gen Core models, as well as Celeron G-series and Pentium Gold processors. Concurrently, 600 series chipsets like H670, B660, and Z690 will also be discontinued.

For those who missed it, Alder Lake, launched in the last quarter of 2021, was Intel's first generation to bring DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 support to the mainstream desktop platform. Along with the LGA1700 socket structure and 600 series chipsets, it formed the foundation of Intel's desktop ecosystem for a long time. We still see the 12400F being used in many entry-level PCs today.

Alder Lake stood out as the most trouble-free generation for many users during the LGA1700 era. Stability issues reported in some systems with Raptor Lake and subsequent refreshes kept interest in 12th Gen processors alive in the DIY market for an extended period.

According to Intel's shared timeline, the last submission date for remaining orders is April 10, 2026. The last order date for affected products is stated as July 24, 2026. Orders placed after this date cannot be canceled or returned. The final shipments are planned for January 22, 2027. While existing systems will continue to operate, new product availability will largely be limited to stock.

With the complete cessation of Alder Lake shipments, the focus is expected to shift to new desktop platforms beyond LGA1851. At this point, the Nova Lake-S architecture, arriving with the LGA1954 socket, will be Intel's next stop.
