Bloomberg's Mark Gurman shared that Apple plans to release new iPad and iPad Air models in the near future. The 2026 iPad models will not bring design changes.
iPad 12 and iPad Air 8 Will Not Feature Design Changes
Gurman claims that updated iPads, including a new entry-level iPad and a new iPad Air, are coming soon. Neither tablet is expected to feature design changes or major improvements, focusing instead on new chips. The 12th-generation iPad is expected to feature the A18 chip, while the 8th-generation iPad Air model is expected to feature the M4 chip. The iPad mini is said to be the only new iPad receiving a major upgrade this year, coming with an OLED display.
The new chip is perhaps the most significant upgrade for the iPad because it will support Apple Intelligence for the first time on the device. Apple announced the 11th-generation iPad with the A16 chip in March 2025. This processor did not support Apple Intelligence technology, which was widely available on other Apple devices at the time.
The iPad performed well during the past holiday season, especially its entry-level model. Apple plans to market the new model more aggressively, particularly to corporate customers. The new iPad, with its faster processors and artificial intelligence features, aligns with this strategy.
