Apple may soon introduce its new affordable model, the iPhone 17e. Rumors circulating in the industry suggest the phone could be unveiled on February 19.
The interesting point is that this date marks exactly one year after the introduction of the iPhone 16e. It's worth noting that Apple typically launches new products on Mondays or Tuesdays, with Wednesdays rarely hosting launches. Therefore, a Thursday launch would be quite unusual for Apple. For this reason, the date might simply be an estimation based on last year's calendar, or it could be based on industry rumors.
Apple recently announced the new AirTag, and there are talks of M5 Pro/Max processor-equipped MacBook Pro models being introduced in early February. As with the iPhone 16e, Apple's new model is likely to be introduced via a press release rather than a major event, so the device could theoretically be announced on any day.
iPhone 17e Expected Features
Industry sources say that the iPhone 17e will address one of the biggest criticisms of the iPhone 16e. The new model is expected to offer MagSafe support and wireless charging speeds of up to 25W. The 16e model lacked MagSafe and only featured 7.5W Qi wireless charging support.
However, it is expected to retain a single camera lens on the back and maintain the notched design. Nevertheless, there are also claims that it might transition to the Dynamic Island design, like other iPhone models. Additionally, Apple is expected to use its next-generation C1 modem. The U1 or U2 ultra-wideband chip, which was not present in the iPhone 16e, might also be added to this model with the introduction of the new AirTag.
Apple is transitioning to a twice-yearly iPhone launch schedule, releasing the iPhone 16e and 17e in the spring, and its flagship models in the fall. According to rumors, the Cupertino-based company plans to shift the launch of the entry-level iPhone 18 to the same period as the 18e model in 2027.
