The legendary Scout brand, reborn under Volkswagen, has unveiled its new SUV concept. The Traveler Pacific Mist version, planned to enter production towards the end of the year, combines the heritage of the classic 1961 International Harvester Scout with modern electric technology. This SUV stands out with its nostalgic design details and boasts impressive performance figures.
Painted in a special blue hue, the Pacific Mist version features extended fenders and 35-inch BFGoodrich T/A KO3 off-road tires, presenting a ready-for-all-conditions appearance. Riding on 22-inch custom-designed wheels, the vehicle also includes a roof rack and an additional storage unit, dubbed a "backpack," at the rear.
The interior, meanwhile, adopts a luxurious and durable approach. The cabin features brown leather and wear-resistant denim fabric upholstery. A two-tone steering wheel and metallic accents are also notable details. Furthermore, the vehicle offers an open-air experience with its "Cabana Top" retractable roof.
Range and Performance
The Scout Traveler is highly ambitious not only in its design but also in its technical specifications. This massive SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds and features an 800-volt high-voltage architecture. Thanks to a range extender called "Harvester" added to the pure electric system, the vehicle's total range can exceed 800 kilometers. In pure electric mode, the range is around 240 km.
Equipped with a four-wheel-drive system, 300 mm ground clearance, and a differential lock for true off-road use, the Scout Traveler is projected to have a towing capacity of over 3.2 tons. The Scout family will not be limited to just the SUV. Supported by Volkswagen Group's manufacturing expertise, the company will also offer a 5.82-meter-long pick-up version named Terra, in addition to the 5.28-meter Traveler model.
Serial production of the Scout Traveler is planned to begin in late 2026 or early 2027. The vehicle, expected to compete with models like the Rivian R1S, also has some price estimates. According to reported information, this colossal SUV will go on sale with prices starting from $60,000.
