Xbox Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass Packages Could Be Merged

Xbox Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass Packages Could Be Merged

It is claimed that Microsoft is evaluating merging the Premium and PC packages within its Xbox Game Pass subscription structure. The potential change could lead to a price increase for PC players.

In its current structure, PC Game Pass, offered to users without an Xbox console, stands out as one of the most notable features of the Game Pass ecosystem. This package, catering exclusively to PC players, is highly advantageous with its affordable price and extensive game library. The potential merger, initially reported by The Verge and corroborated by Windows Central, could shift the balance.

Price Increase on the Agenda for PC Players

If Microsoft does not implement a new pricing policy, PC players might face an indirect price increase. Currently, the monthly fee for PC Game Pass in the US is around $16.50, following a 40% increase in October. In contrast, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs $30, and the Premium package is around $15.

In Turkey, the Game Pass Essential package is 269 TL per month, the Premium package is 409 TL per month, and the Ultimate package is 799 TL per month. The price of PC Game Pass is 449 TL.

However, the Premium package's game library does not overlap exactly with PC Game Pass. The absence of some PC games in the Premium package raises questions about the content strategy in case of a merger. Current information indicates that Microsoft is seriously considering merging PC Game Pass with another package, particularly Premium.

Game Pass Could Expand

According to sources, Microsoft's plans are not limited to just merging packages. The company is also reportedly considering adding more third-party services to Game Pass subscriptions. This approach aims to transform Game Pass from merely a game subscription into a more comprehensive digital service platform.

However, it is stated that all these efforts are currently in a planning and evaluation phase, and no concrete changes are expected to be announced in the short term.

One of the most debated aspects of a potential merger is day-one access. Currently, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offers Microsoft's first-party games to subscribers on launch day, an advantage not present in the Premium package. PC Game Pass, however, has historically provided this access. At this stage, the only clear point is that Microsoft aims to streamline and simplify its console, PC, and cloud-focused Game Pass packages.
