September's Game Frenzy Scared Studios: Valor Mortis Backed Down

September's Game Frenzy Scared Studios: Valor Mortis Backed Down

The autumn months have always been a particularly targeted period for game companies. Highly anticipated games are released back-to-back during this period when game sales peak. However, this year the calendar is even more congested than usual. Since a game like GTA 6, which will turn sales upside down, is set to release in November, game companies are trying to stay as far away from it as possible, aiming to release their games a few months before GTA 6 if possible. This has directed almost all studios towards September. However, this also caused a new problem, as September has turned into a battlefield for new games.

Valor Mortis Delayed to October

Highly anticipated games such as Marvel's Wolverine, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Minecraft Dungeons II are set to be released almost simultaneously. All these games will have to compete with each other for players' time and, of course, money. In such an environment, it seems almost inevitable that at least a few games will sell less than they normally would. Game companies are aware of this, and thus, delay announcements have started to emerge.

The first to back down was Lyrical Games. The company delayed its highly anticipated new game, Valor Mortis, from September 24th to October 13th. The studio stated that the game's chances of success would be higher on this new date.

Valor Mortis, a first-person soulslike game, is set in an alternative version of Napoleonic France. Players must fight monstrous enemies in a twisted world where Napoleon's endless wars have spread a terrible plague across the continent. During this war, players can use swords and firearms of the era, as well as alchemy-based magic abilities.
