Microsoft continues its efforts to improve Windows 11's performance and user experience. Following previously announced File Explorer enhancements, the company has now shared new optimizations planned for release before the end of 2026.
Four New Improvements Are Coming
According to Microsoft's statement, architectural changes made to File Explorer have improved the application's launch time, navigation performance, and overall stability. Additionally, various bugs have been fixed in areas such as blurry thumbnails, transition animations in the Home section, keyboard navigation, file renaming, and file size formatting.
The company announced that four more significant improvements will be added to Windows 11 during the remainder of the year. These include a faster Windows installation process, easier access to family safety and parental controls, a more natural voice interaction experience, and additional memory optimizations for PCs with at least 8 GB of RAM.
Work on memory usage, in particular, is a continuation of Microsoft's recently announced WinUI-based optimization plans. The company aims to reduce RAM usage and ensure smoother system operation by migrating some React-based Windows components to the native WinUI infrastructure.
Updates Will Be Rolled Out Gradually
Microsoft stated that these new features will reach more Windows 11 devices starting this autumn. However, some features will initially be available only to Windows Insider users, and the rollout schedule will progress gradually according to the update plan.
The company plans to continue its performance-focused developments throughout the year to ensure Windows 11 runs faster and more efficiently, especially on low and mid-range hardware.
