Apple Sets New Record with iPhone 17 Series

The iPhone 17 is currently the best-selling smartphone in the world. Moreover, the current generation accounts for 82% of new iPhones sold this year. This is a new record for Apple!

According to current CIRP data, 82% of new iPhones sold in the first quarter of 2026 belong to the current series. This high figure marks a new record for the March quarter.

82% of New iPhones Sold are from the 17 Series

Despite being on sale for only a few weeks in the first calendar quarter, the low-priced iPhone 17e nearly caught up to the iPhone Air, capturing 4% of US sales in the March quarter. Speaking of the March quarter, the five current iPhone 17 models accounted for 82% of all iPhone sales in the US last quarter, setting a record for any March quarter. The breakdown for the first calendar quarter of 2026 is as follows:

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max - 26%
  • iPhone 17 Pro - 24%
  • iPhone 17 - 23%
  • iPhone Air - 5%
  • iPhone 17e - 4%

Five of the seven phones Apple currently sells were released in the last ten months. This group includes the standard iPhone 17 and the new iPhone Air model, which replaced the older Plus versions. Apple also launched the cheaper 17e model in March 2026 to replace the 16e.

iPhone 16 Continues to Sell

For new buyers, two older phone models officially remain on sale. Currently, only the older 2024 iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models are available as new devices in Apple stores. Sales of older iPhones in this year's March quarter reached 18%:

  • iPhone 16 - 11%
  • iPhone 16e - 5%
  • iPhone 16 Plus - 2%
