Platforms that are supposed to protect users' personal data are unfortunately failing to do so. Renowned gaming company Capcom announced that millions of user data were stolen following a cyberattack. It was revealed that millions of players' personal data were compromised as a result of the cyberattack on Capcom's systems. Phishing attacks are now a concern.
Capcom Leak
According to a statement from Capcom, personal data belonging to 11.7 million users was leaked following a cyberattack last week. This included email addresses, birth dates, and region information, while usernames for 43 accounts were leaked, and passwords for 196 users were changed without authorization. The comforting news was that credit card information was not among the compromised data.
It was stated that suspicious logins were detected on Capcom ID service servers on October 19, and necessary measures were taken shortly thereafter. However, investigations revealed that the attack had already concluded. The company also states that it has informed law enforcement and its security advisory board.
The servers have been restored to their previous state, and all services related to Capcom ID are continuing without interruption. Capcom is warning users affected by the leak about the potential for phishing attacks.
