Turkey is developing its own high-speed train. Türkiye Raylı Sistem Araçları Sanayi A.Ş. (TÜRASAŞ), affiliated with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, has achieved 90% physical progress on the first National Electric High-Speed Train Set. It is planned for the train to be put on the rails and begin testing within this year.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated, "We will put our train on the rails and start test drives within 2026."
To Reach a Speed of 225 km/h
The National Electric High-Speed Train Set will transport passengers at a speed of 225 kilometers per hour. It will consist of 8 vehicles and carry a maximum of 577 passengers. It is being produced in Sakarya with a domestic content rate of 75%. The goal is to start rail tests for the prototype version in 2026 and produce a total of 15 sets by 2028. TCDD's current inventory includes 31 train sets. The National Electric High-Speed Train Set will add half of the existing inventory.
The interior of the train prioritizes comfort and technology. It will offer comfort with ghost screen technology integrated into doors and partition walls, foldable tables with wireless charging, Wi-Fi, comfortable leather and fabric seats, and a spacious interior design. There will also be elevators to assist wheelchair users in boarding and alighting the train from the platform.
