Ferrari Unveils Name and Interior of its First Electric Car

Ferrari has officially announced the name of its first all-electric model: Ferrari Luce. The Italian manufacturer today showcased some parts of the vehicle's interior design in San Francisco. The cabin design was developed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design company founded by Jony Ive.

Ferrari Luce's Interior Revealed

"Luce" means "light" in Italian. Ferrari states that this name symbolizes the idea that electrification is a means, not an end. The company has been working for five years on every aspect of the vehicle's design with the LoveFrom team, founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive and designer Marc Newson.

Ferrari's first electric model, seen testing near Maranello, was first introduced last October along with its core technologies. Now, the impact of LoveFrom's touch on the cabin is being revealed.

Instead of the giant touchscreen approach seen in many electric vehicles today, Ferrari has opted for mechanical buttons, dials, switches, and switch-like controls that offer a more intuitive and satisfying experience for the driver.

The steering wheel features a simple three-spoke design inspired by the iconic Nardi wooden steering wheels of the 1950s and 60s. It consists of 19 CNC-machined parts made from 100% recycled aluminum and is 400 grams lighter than a standard Ferrari steering wheel. The controls are arranged in two modules, reminiscent of a Formula 1 layout.

The key is made from Corning Fusion5 Glass with an E Ink display, a first in the automotive industry. When placed in its slot, the screen turns from yellow to black, and the cabin lights illuminate with a specially choreographed light sequence.

The instrument panel moves with the steering wheel, always providing the best viewing angle. It features two stacked Samsung OLED screens and three cut-out designs for a second screen visible behind them. This ultra-light panel, a world first, was specially developed with Samsung Display engineers.

The control panel has a spherical joint structure, allowing it to be rotated towards the driver or passenger. It features a "multigraph" with three independent motors, offering clock, chronograph, compass, and launch control modes.

The exterior design of the Ferrari Luce will be unveiled in Italy in May 2026. Ferrari had previously announced that its electric supercar would be introduced in 2025. However, the exterior design reveal was postponed to May. The company states that the price of this electric supercar will be over 500,000 euros.
