The Most Popular Phones in the Second-Hand Market Have Been Revealed: Here's the List

Despite being on the market for only a few months, the iPhone 17 Pro Max has already become the most traded-in phone. Here is the list of the best-selling phones in the second-hand market:

Even though less than a year has passed since its release, Apple's newest flagship, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, has quickly become the most traded-in device in the independent resale market. Among the top 20 phones entering the second-hand market, there is only one Android phone; all the rest are iPhones.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Becomes the Fastest Traded-In Phone

According to a new report from SellCell, Apple's latest flagship iPhone rapidly climbed to the top, accounting for 11.5% of all devices traded in the independent resale market just a few months after its launch.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max's share among the top 20 traded devices more than doubled in approximately 12 weeks, rising from about 5.1% in late November to 11.5% in early February. 86% of the traded-in devices were classified as in perfect or good condition, indicating that many users sold their phones shortly after purchasing them.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max continue to stand out, making up approximately 7.3% of trade-ins. The iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 13 each hold a 7.2% share. The top 20 devices collectively represent about 47% of total trade-in transactions.

The report highlights that the iPhone 17 Pro Max in excellent condition has depreciated by approximately 25.4% since its launch, which is 7% less than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which lost about 32.5% of its value over the same period (145 days). This data suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro Max maintains a stronger second-hand value compared to previous generations at the same stage of its lifecycle.

The report includes the 20 most popular devices for trade-in over the last 30 days. Among them, 19 are iPhones, with the only Android model being the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, even it is not at the top of the list, ranking 17th. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is also less than a year old and is Samsung's current flagship model in the S series. The Galaxy S26 series has not yet been released. Speaking of the Galaxy S26, its Ultra model is likely to be one of the best Android phones in 2026.

Nevertheless, Apple devices generally retain a higher second-hand value than Android flagships. Apple iPhones typically retain 60-70% of their value after one year, while for Samsung devices, this rate is around 50-60%. This means owners are more likely to sell their devices when prices are high. This also explains why iPhone models are more dominant than Android models in the top 20 trade-in rankings.

As for why owners sell so early, the report suggests that high second-hand prices might be the biggest factor. Some buyers may purchase the phone to test it before deciding to use it long-term. Others might decide that the price is too high for the experience it offers. With iPhones now costing over 100,000 TL, economic factors certainly play a role.
