Google has announced new data transfer features for Gemini. Users will now be able to transfer their chat histories and personal data from other AI applications to Gemini.
The competition among AI assistants, especially Gemini and ChatGPT, is becoming increasingly personal. However, these boundaries may soon be removed. Google has announced new features for Gemini that allow users to transfer data from different AI platforms.
All chats on a single platform
The first feature announced for Google Gemini allows users to request an overview of themselves from their currently used AI tool. This overview can include information such as writing style, preferred topics, or personal details. This content is then transferred to Gemini, and the system begins to learn about the user through this data.
The second method is more comprehensive. Users can directly transfer all their chat histories from another AI assistant to Gemini. This provides access to past conversations, allowing them to continue where they left off on the new platform. A similar feature was also recently introduced by Anthropic.
In this context, data portability between different platforms has become a new area of competition. Looking at the overall picture, Google's move aims to attract users to its own ecosystem. The ease of transferring past data, in particular, could significantly lower the barrier to switching platforms.
