Serious Sam, which carved out a unique place in the gaming world as one of the cult first-person shooter games of the 2000s, is preparing to hit the stage with its new game. Developed in collaboration with Devolver Digital and Behaviour Interactive, Serious Sam: Shatterverse brings the series back with a completely different perspective.
The game, set to release this year, will blend classic series elements with a multiplayer and roguelite structure. Planned for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the game will emphasize the co-op experience.
Interdimensional Chaos and Innovative Gameplay
Serious Sam: Shatterverse will bring together five Sam characters from different dimensions. Players will encounter both new and old enemies as they progress through the shattered multiverses torn apart by the villainous Mental. Roguelite elements will allow players to stack different "boons" to diversify their playstyles. Procedurally changing levels in handcrafted arenas, unstable anomalies, hidden portals, and high-risk opportunities will enable players to maximize rewards while also risking instant failure.
Meanwhile, John J. Dick, the original voice actor for Serious Sam, returns to his character. Behaviour Interactive studio, known especially for Dead by Daylight, states that their goal with Shatterverse is to respectfully preserve the Serious Sam legacy while offering an unprecedented experience in the series.
