Ford's Canceled Electric Model Revealed: It Doesn't Resemble Any Ford

Ford's three-row electric SUV prototype, canceled in 2024, has surfaced. The model, used as a "research vehicle," will guide the brand's future electric vehicles.

When car manufacturers cancel a project, it's almost never seen publicly. However, there are exceptions, and a new one has just been added. Doug Field, a Ford executive, quietly began showcasing the company's canceled three-row electric SUV model on LinkedIn.

This development, first noticed by Ford Authority, was also confirmed by a Ford official speaking to The Drive. The official stated that the vehicle is the three-row SUV canceled in 2024, and is now being used as a "research vehicle guiding future generations of electric vehicles." It was even noted that the impact of this model "will be significantly felt" in upcoming electric vehicles.

The model in question is a "development prototype" and does not resemble any vehicle in Ford's current product lineup. The vehicle features a highly aerodynamic design, characterized by a rounded front fascia, a sloped windshield, and a long roofline that flows smoothly towards the rear. Simple and fluid lines were preferred in the body design, while minimalist door handles are reminiscent of the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Aerodynamic wheels and an almost vertical rear design complete this futuristic look.

Overall, the vehicle resembles the recently canceled Honda 0 SUV model. Ford, for its part, described this vehicle as a seven-seater "roller coaster." The targeted range was over 560 kilometers. Furthermore, it was stated that with fast charging support, it could gain approximately 160 km of range in just 6 minutes.

However, none of these ambitious goals ever materialized. Ford has significantly slowed down its electric vehicle plans recently, but has not abandoned them entirely. The brand continues to work on next-generation electric vehicle projects, including an affordable electric pickup expected to be priced around $30,000.
