Tesla's Move in Turkey: First Concrete Step Taken for FSD

Tesla's Move in Turkey: First Concrete Step Taken for FSD

Tesla has taken a significant step for its highly anticipated Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology in Turkey. The company has officially initiated the process of adapting its autonomous driving systems to local conditions by opening a "Vehicle Operator" position based in Istanbul.

Istanbul Traffic to Be FSD's Training Ground

The newly opened position focuses directly on Tesla's data collection operations. Employees taking on this role will collect high-quality driving data by operating Tesla vehicles in Istanbul's dense and complex traffic conditions. This data is critically important for training and developing the company's autonomous driving algorithms.

Tesla's move aims to adapt the FSD system not only to general driving scenarios but also to traffic dynamics, road structures, signs, and pedestrian behaviors specific to Turkey.

Furthermore, Tesla's job posting requires candidates to have at least 4 years of active driving experience, a clean driving record, and advanced attention skills. Additionally, advanced English proficiency, computer literacy, and familiarity with Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) are important requirements.

Process May Accelerate After European Approval

Tesla's step in Turkey gains further significance when evaluated alongside recent developments in the FSD approval process centered in the Netherlands. The accelerating regulatory progress for autonomous driving technologies in Europe indicates that the process could gain momentum in new markets like Turkey.

Currently, the Netherlands' authorized body, RDW, is preparing to initiate the European Union approval process for FSD to be used across Europe. This process is expected to begin in May. If test results are deemed sufficient and a majority of member states provide support, the next step will be to prepare official regulations for type approval valid throughout the EU. The general expectation is for FSD to be active across the EU within this year. For Turkey, which applies EU traffic rules, FSD is also expected to become active before the end of this year.
