New BYD Sealion 05 Launched: 630 km Range, 9-Minute Charge

The 2026 BYD Sealion 05 comes in two different versions: plug-in hybrid and all-electric. The model features second-generation Blade battery technology and ultra-fast charging.

BYD has launched its new compact SUV model, the BYD Sealion 05, in China. The plug-in hybrid (DM-i) version of the model comes with impressive features such as an all-electric range of up to 305 km (CLTC), advanced LiDAR-based driving assistance systems, seven airbags, and a built-in refrigerator. The starting price for the entry-level version was announced as approximately $14,360.

The Sealion 05 is offered with two different powertrain systems: plug-in hybrid and all-electric. Both versions share a similar design language, featuring a closed front fascia, slim headlights, semi-hidden door handles, and black pillar accents. The vehicle is 4620 mm long, approximately 17 cm longer than the BYD Atto 3.

Both versions of the model come standard with the DiPilot 100 driving assistance system. Higher trim levels offer the LiDAR-supported DiPilot 300 system, which supports Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) functionality in urban areas and on highways. The vehicle also features the DiSus-C suspension system, providing continuously variable damping.

Inside, a 12.8-inch multimedia screen is offered as standard, while higher trims feature a 15.6-inch screen. An 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster is positioned behind the steering wheel. The gear selector has been moved behind the steering wheel, creating extra space on the center console for physical buttons, two cup holders, and a built-in refrigerator.

The trunk volume is announced as 650 liters for the hybrid version and 600 liters for the electric version. The all-electric model also offers a 110-liter front trunk (frunk).

The Sealion 05 DM-i comes with a fifth-generation hybrid system. Its 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine produces 99 horsepower and works in conjunction with a 161-horsepower electric motor. The model offers two different battery options: 26.6 kWh and 34.2 kWh. Fuel consumption is stated as 3.1 liters per 100 km. With a 65-liter fuel tank, the total range can exceed 2,100 km.

The all-electric version, in its entry-level trim, offers a rear-wheel-drive, 268-horsepower motor and a 57.5 kWh battery, providing a CLTC range of 540 km. The higher-end version promises 322 horsepower and a 68.5 kWh battery, delivering a range of 630 km.

The most striking feature of the model is its second-generation Blade Battery technology and ultra-fast charging capability. According to this, the battery can be charged from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes.
