The film, which focuses on people trying to share the truth about aliens with the public and what would happen during a first contact with extraterrestrials, generally received positive reviews from critics. However, the film's audience scores fell below expectations. As of today, the film's IMDb score is 6.8, and its Rotten Tomatoes audience score is 73%.

Disclosure Day also received a "B" CinemaScore rating, determined by audience scores upon leaving the cinema, making it the lowest CinemaScore a Spielberg film has received in the last 18 years.
