Apple Store App to Get AI Assistant

Apple Store App to Get AI Assistant

A report was published last month stating that Apple was working on a new AI-powered shopping assistant for its Apple Store app on iPhone and iPad. The company has now started rolling this out to some users.

What will the virtual shopping assistant in the Apple Store be able to do?

The virtual shopping assistant can be accessed by tapping the sparkling speech bubble in the bottom right corner of the app. Users will be able to ask questions about Apple products, existing Apple Store orders, trade-in values, payment options, and more, or choose from the suggested list below:

  • The latest Apple products
  • Calculate trade-in value (international)
  • Show carrier offers (international)
  • Help me choose an Apple Watch
  • iPhone monthly payments (international)
  • Compare iPad series

Apple states that the virtual shopping assistant is powered by artificial intelligence, and therefore may provide incorrect information. It also notes that it may store records to ensure quality and system performance and to track fraud.

Access to the shopping assistant in the Apple Store app is not publicly available. Apple says it is being offered as an early preview to select users. There is no information on when it will be widely rolled out.
