The rise in memory prices is bringing new price hikes to the graphics card market. Following Nvidia, it has emerged that AMD has also decided to apply a price increase to GPU memory kits. According to the notification sent to the company's business partners, the new prices will take effect starting next month.
Radeon RX 9000 Series Will Also Be Affected
According to industry sources, AMD announced in a notification sent to graphics card manufacturers that it would increase the price of GPU memory kits by at least 10 percent. The rising costs are expected to be passed on to graphics card manufacturers, and from there to end-users. Allegedly, AMD had planned to implement this price increase about a month ago.
However, the company postponed the decision due to the possibility of negatively impacting its market share. The continued rise in DRAM costs made the price hike inevitable. AMD's current Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards use GDDR6 memory. Therefore, while the price increase is expected to primarily affect the RX 9000 family, it is stated that previous generation GDDR6-based Radeon models may also see a price hike.
DRAM Crisis Increases Hardware Prices
The recent rapid increase in DRAM and graphics memory prices is affecting not only graphics cards but also many electronic products, from smartphones to laptops. While costs for some memory types have reportedly doubled, it is no longer sustainable for manufacturers to bear this burden alone.
For now, no official statement regarding the price increase has been made by AMD. However, industry sources suggest that the new pricing will gradually be reflected in graphics card retail prices starting next month.
