Apple made an unusual change to its iPhone launch schedule. The company focused solely on its high-end models at its autumn event instead of introducing the iPhone 18. As a result, the launch of the standard iPhone 18 has been pushed to the first months of 2027. At today's event, only the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Duo were introduced.
Standard Model Postponed to Another Season
Although we are seeing this for the first time, there have actually been claims about this for some time. It was even rumored that since 2025, Apple wanted to shift its high-end models to the end of the year and its standard models to the beginning of the year.
Although Apple has not made an official statement, three new models will join in the first months of 2027. These will be the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and the second-generation iPhone Air.
What is the Reason for the Postponement?
There are multiple reasons behind the calendar change. The first is that the iPhone family has become quite extensive. Introducing and launching 6 iPhone models on the same day is not very logical from a commercial perspective.
Another possibility is the global memory and chip supply issues. The current memory shortage, straining production capacity for new iPhone models, might have influenced Apple's decision to postpone the standard iPhone 18. It is understandable for the company to prioritize the higher-profit-margin Pro models and the new foldable iPhone Duo under these circumstances.
Another reflection of the memory issue is the prices. Indeed, existing models saw significant price increases in both Turkey and other global markets. The prices of the iPhone 17 family were increased by $100. The iPhone 16, still on sale, also saw its price rise by $100 compared to last week, returning to its starting price of $799.
The new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max were also launched with a $100 higher price compared to the previous generation.
