Apple has introduced a new visual identity and animated logo design for Apple Music. The design, inspired by sound waves, offers a look consistent with the company's Liquid Glass interface philosophy, while the new Apple Music app icon transitions to black-and-white colors.
Apple Music's new logo created with sound waves
Apple Music's new logo consists of an animated music note resembling waves spreading across water. The company created the new design using entirely practical effects. For this, the logo was etched onto the glass bottom of a small tank, which was then filled with mineral oil, and a transparent lid was placed over the logo. Subsequently, specific sound frequencies were used to create waves on the oil's surface, and the resulting images were recorded.
A YouTube video demonstrating the process is embedded here.
The project was developed in collaboration with music producer Fred Again and NEST Acoustics, in addition to Apple. In the introductory video, the core approach of the project is described as transforming sound into a visual experience. The team aimed to represent music in a visually striking manner, focusing on the idea of creating a perfect sound wave.
The new animated logo will be used at the beginning of content such as music videos and concert recordings on Apple Music. This aims to make the platform's visual identity more prominent not only in the app interface but also within video content.
The new visual identity is expected to be rolled out with Apple's upcoming software updates. The changes are planned to arrive with iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2 versions.
