Nvidia has released a significant performance update for its next-generation AI-powered image technology, DLSS 5. Initially criticized for its high hardware requirements, the technology has begun operating more efficiently thanks to its updated model. The new model is now being tested via mods in games that do not officially support DLSS 5.
Up to 40 Percent Increase in Some Games
Nvidia had announced that the new DLSS 5 model operates up to 2 times faster and uses 20 percent less VRAM compared to its previous version. With the updated model now in the hands of mod developers, the first results regarding real-world gaming performance have emerged. Mod developers extracted the DLSS-NR V310.9.16.0 DLL file distributed with Nvidia's NBA 2K27 and began using the technology in officially unsupported games.
Tests conducted on various graphics cards, from RTX 4060 to RTX 5090, show double-digit performance increases compared to the previous DLSS 5 model. In tests performed with a GeForce RTX 5090 at 4K resolution, Cyberpunk 2077's performance increased by 22 percent, reaching 66 FPS. STALKER 2 and The Last of Us Part II also saw an approximately 25 percent performance increase. Moreover, the model is noted to significantly reduce GPU power consumption.
In separate tests conducted with a GeForce RTX 4060, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered's performance rose by 40 percent compared to the old DLSS 5 model. Nvidia's optimized DLSS 5 model has a structure that is approximately 24 percent smaller than its predecessor. The company states that while optimizations boost performance, the impact on image quality has been kept limited.
