AMD confirmed: The AM4 platform is being revived

AMD is not done with the AM4 platform. An official statement from the company confirmed long-standing rumors. David McAfee, head of AMD Ryzen, announced that they are working to reintroduce AM4-compatible processors on a wider scale due to rising DDR5 prices.

AM4 officially returns

For those unaware, the AM4 platform has been in use for approximately 9 years, hosting many generations of Ryzen. Although some processor families have been discontinued, AM4-based models, especially the Ryzen 5000 series, still achieve strong sales figures in the global market. According to AMD, the main reason for this interest is the significant increase in total system cost for DDR5-based AM5 and Intel LGA 1851 platforms.

AMD is evaluating everything it can do to bring more products to the AM4 ecosystem and meet the demands of gamers who want to upgrade their systems without a complete reinstallation. David McAfee, AMD Ryzen President

While DDR4 is still seeing price increases, it remains a more accessible option compared to DDR5. This makes AM4 attractive for users who do not want to completely overhaul their existing systems. McAfee's statements cover not only motherboard production but also the supply of AM4-compatible processors. AMD's goal is to enable gamers to upgrade their current systems at a more affordable cost.

This approach aligns with recently leaked new Zen 3-based models such as the Ryzen 3 5300G, Ryzen 5 5600T, and Ryzen 5 5600XT. On the other hand, the return to AM4 does not mean everything will become cheaper. DDR4 memory prices are also on an upward trend, and some manufacturers may reflect this in their pricing.
