BYD's premium electric vehicle brand, Yangwang, continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicles with its updated Yangwang U7 model. According to the latest information, the flagship electric sedan will feature a significantly larger battery option, placing it among the longest-range electric cars announced to date.
1,006 km Range with 150 kWh Battery
The all-electric version of the new Yangwang U7 will be offered with Blade LFP battery options of 150 kWh and 135 kWh capacity. With these batteries, the vehicle can achieve ranges of 1,006 km and 800 km, respectively, according to CLTC measurements.
Looking at battery weights, the new 150 kWh battery weighs 926 kg, while the existing 135 kWh battery weighs 903 kg. This indicates that BYD has significantly increased the battery capacity without excessively increasing its weight. The curb weights of the vehicles are listed as 3,120 kg, 3,195 kg, 3,290 kg, and 3,095 kg depending on the battery and equipment.
At the beginning of December, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed new details about the Yangwang U7. Accordingly, the model will retain the same exterior design as the current version and will continue to be offered with 4 or 5-seat options. The dimensions also remain unchanged: the vehicle will have a length of 5265 mm, a width of 1998 mm, a height of 1517 mm, and a wheelbase of 3160 mm.
No significant changes are expected in the powertrain. The U7 is anticipated to continue using four electric motors, each producing 240 kW of power. This translates to a total output of 960 kW (1,287 horsepower).
For comparison, the currently available version offers a 720 km CLTC range with a 135.5 kWh Blade battery. This version has a maximum speed of 270 km/h and a 0–100 km/h acceleration of 2.9 seconds.
The BYD Yangwang U7 was first introduced in March 2025. The model's starting price is 628,000 yuan (approximately 89,800 dollars). The vehicle is offered in 4 or 5-seat configurations, as well as all-electric and plug-in hybrid versions. Key features include the God’s Eye A (DiPilot 600) advanced driving assistance system with three LiDARs, DiSus-Z suspension, the four-motor e4 (Yisifang) platform, and a remarkably low drag coefficient of 0.195 Cd.
