Despite the immense success of the iPhone 17 in 2025, the iPhone 18 is not expected to be released until spring 2027. This means the iPhone 17 will remain the latest standard model in the product lineup for over 18 months.
For the past decade, Apple has simultaneously launched standard and Pro iPhone models every September. This approach is changing. Apple is moving towards a staggered launch strategy, spreading new iPhone releases across different months of the year instead of unveiling them all at a single autumn event. In this model, premium devices will be prioritized in the fall, while more affordable or mainstream versions will be released later.
Standard iPhone 18 model not coming this year
In this context, Apple is not expected to release the standard iPhone 18 in 2026. The company will launch the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, along with its first foldable iPhone, in the autumn as usual. The standard iPhone 18 model, however, will be released a few months later (in spring 2027), alongside the iPhone 18e and the second-generation iPhone Air.
Supply chain analysts point to manufacturing and logistical advantages as the factors behind this change. By staggering launches, Apple can reduce production bottlenecks, better manage component supply for advanced technologies, and smooth out revenue accrual by distributing iPhone sales across quarters instead of concentrating them in a single period.
