Xiaomi Announced: It Will Produce Everything From Chip to AI In-House

Xiaomi delivered important messages about its future at a new event. CEO Lei Jun states that the company will go beyond being a hardware manufacturer to establish a fully integrated technology ecosystem. At the heart of this approach will be Xiaomi's self-developed XRING O1 processor.

Chip, Operating System, and Artificial Intelligence Converge

According to Xiaomi, XRING O1 is a flagship-level mobile chip entirely designed in-house. Developed with a second-generation 3nm manufacturing process, this chip features a ten-core, four-cluster CPU architecture. Xiaomi emphasizes that with this chip, it is the first company to offer a 3nm-class flagship mobile processor in mainland China. Globally, only four companies have achieved this feat.

However, Xiaomi's plan is not limited to a standalone processor. Lei Jun announced that a new phase, described as a "grand convergence," will begin in 2026. Accordingly, Xiaomi aims to bring its own chip, its own operating system, and its own large-scale artificial intelligence model together in a single device.

The investment landscape is also noteworthy. Five years ago, Xiaomi announced a budget of 100 billion yuan for core technology R&D. The company has already exceeded this figure, spending approximately 105 billion yuan. For the next five years, an additional 200 billion yuan investment plan is being implemented, focusing on chips, artificial intelligence, and operating systems. According to Xiaomi, this strategy will enable the "human, car, and home" ecosystem to achieve a more holistic and intelligent structure in the long term.
