Xiaomi Shifts Gears: Four New Models in 2026

Xiaomi is making an ambitious entry into the electric and EREV SUV segments with four new models in 2026. The seven-seater “Kunlun” and the SU7 Executive sedan are particularly noteworthy.

Xiaomi plans to launch four new models starting in early 2026. These include an updated SU7, a seven-seater EREV SUV, an “executive” (long-wheelbase) version of the SU7, and a five-seater EREV SUV. According to local media reports, the first two models will be introduced in the first half of 2026, with the other two following in the second half of the year.

The “Kunlun” Codenamed 7-Seater SUV

In October, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun and senior executives participated in vehicle tests in Xinjiang. During this process, spy shots of a large, camouflaged SUV with a single exhaust outlet leaked online. This model is believed to be the 7-seater EREV SUV, codenamed “Kunlun” within the company.

Positioned similarly to the Li Auto L9 and Leapmotor D19, the model will be a mid-to-large-sized SUV aimed at families. It targets a pure electric range of 400-500 km with a battery capacity exceeding 70 kWh. This system includes a gasoline engine, but it is used as a generator to charge the battery rather than powering the wheels directly.

The executive version of the Xiaomi SU7 is being developed as a long-wheelbase sedan. According to sources close to the matter, the vehicle's wheelbase has been significantly extended, and substantial comfort-focused improvements have been made, particularly in the rear passenger compartment.

Xiaomi has actually been working on extended-range hybrid (EREV) technology for some time. Intensive recruitment in this area has been ongoing since 2023, and the company's official website still lists over 20 EREV-related positions.

The industry views 2026 as the starting year for competition in “large-battery hybrids.” This year, many EREV SUVs like the IM LS6 and Fulwin T11 entered the Chinese market. Brands like Xpeng are also increasing their investments and preparing G7 and P7+ EREV versions for 2026. New hybrid projects with 80 kWh-class batteries are already in the planning stage, and Xiaomi's EREV SUVs will be significant players in this wave.
