Sony's new State of Play event, held last night, featured many remarkable announcements for the gaming world. Among these announcements was the new John Wick game, which we had received initial news about recently. The highly anticipated game was officially announced with the release of its first trailer.
As you know, a game called John Wick Hex was released in 2019. However, John Wick Hex was a small game developed with a modest budget and didn't make a significant impact. This new John Wick game announced at State of Play, however, will be a much more big-budget, AAA production.
Saber Interactive is Developing the New John Wick Game
Prepared with the contributions of Lionsgate, the studio behind the films, this new game bears the signature of Saber Interactive. Saber Interactive, the studio behind games like World War Z and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, has recently been making a name for itself with ports and remakes of popular games. Indeed, Saber is also developing the highly anticipated Knights of the Old Republic Remake.
As you can see from the trailer, Keanu Reeves once again portrays John Wick in the game. The game, with contributions from the series' director Chad Stahelski, takes the story back in time, following a John Wick who has not yet left the assassins' guild. It is said that the game will deepen the series' mythology, featuring both familiar faces and new characters.
The game, developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, will be a third-person shooter (TPS) action game. Judging by the trailers, the "gun fu" combat style, synonymous with the series, will play an important role in the game. This means players will engage in gunfights while also utilizing close-quarters combat arts. No release date has been shared for the intriguing game yet.
