Social media giant Meta and eyewear manufacturer EssilorLuxottica's jointly developed AI-powered smart glasses achieved record sales in 2025. According to the company's fourth-quarter financial results, over 7 million smart glasses were sold last year. This figure represents more than three times the total sales of 2 million units in 2023 and 2024, once again demonstrating the accelerating consumer demand for wearable AI devices.
This figure indicates more than three times the total sales of 2 million units in 2023 and 2024. Thus, it has once again been demonstrated that consumer demand for wearable artificial intelligence devices is accelerating.
Ray-Ban and Oakley Brands Supported Growth
The announced sales data covers models launched under both the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands. Oakley-branded smart glasses were introduced in June. The combination of iconic designs with AI features is cited as one of the key factors driving demand for the products.
The collaboration between the two companies began in 2019. Although the first generation of smart glasses was launched in September 2021, the products primarily reached wider audiences with the second generation introduced in 2023. Significant improvements in design, performance, and AI integration were made with the second generation.
In September, a new Ray-Ban model was introduced. This version, priced at 799 dollars, can be controlled with hand gestures and neural technology. Additionally, a small screen integrated into one of the lenses provides visual information to the user. However, Meta announced in January that it had postponed the global launch of its Ray-Ban Display glasses. The international release, initially planned for the first months of 2026, was pushed back due to "unprecedented demand" in the US.
The increasing interest was reflected not only in sales figures but also in production plans. According to information that emerged last month, Meta and EssilorLuxottica are considering doubling production to reach a capacity of at least 20 million units by the end of the year.
