Tesla's First Quarter Delivery Expectation Gives Weak Signals

Tesla's First Quarter Delivery Expectation Gives Weak Signals

Electric car manufacturer Tesla shared its delivery expectations for the first quarter of 2026. According to Wall Street projections compiled by the company, a total of 365,645 vehicle deliveries are anticipated in Q1 2026. However, this picture reveals that the company is struggling to regain its growth momentum despite a superficial increase.

Analyst estimates point to an approximately 8 percent increase compared to the same period last year. However, this increase does not represent as strong a recovery as it might seem at first glance. This is because Q1 2025, the period used for comparison, was recorded as one of Tesla's weakest quarters in recent years.

Base effect overshadows the truth

In Q1 2025, Tesla had halted production at all four of its factories to transition Model Y production lines to the "Juniper" update. This transition process resulted in much lower-than-expected deliveries, with the company managing to deliver only 336,681 vehicles during that period.

Therefore, the projected increase of approximately 29,000 units for Q1 2026 is actually built upon a very low base. Furthermore, considering that Tesla delivered 497,120 vehicles in Q3 2025 and 418,227 in Q4, the current expectation indicates a significant quarterly decline. For more context, Tesla delivered 386,810 units in Q1 2024 and 422,875 units in Q1 2023.

The delivery expectation for the entirety of 2026 for Tesla stands at 1,689,691 vehicles. This figure represents an increase of only 3.3 percent compared to the 1,636,129 units delivered in 2025.

The shared projections indicate that analysts are more optimistic for the coming years. Accordingly, Tesla's deliveries are expected to reach 1.89 million in 2027 and 2.13 million in 2028. Even more noteworthy is the forecast of 3 million vehicle deliveries by 2030.

However, this target requires nearly doubling the current production and delivery pace. Moreover, Tesla experienced a decline in deliveries for two consecutive years for the first time in its history. Deliveries, which peaked at 1.81 million units in 2023, decreased to 1.79 million in 2024 and 1.64 million in 2025.
