BYD has introduced its new flagship SUV model, the Great Tang. The model, set to go on sale in China in May, stands out with both its fully electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions. Especially the electric version, offering a range of up to 950 km, is poised to be a strong contender in its segment. Although the price has not yet been announced, it is expected to be around $43,000.
BYD Great Tang Features
As the newest member of BYD's Dynasty series, the Great Tang holds the title of BYD's largest SUV model to date, with a length of 5302 mm and a 3130 mm wheelbase. The 7-seater interior features a triple-screen front console, foldable tables for the second row, a roof-integrated screen, and amenities like a refrigerator.
950 km Range
The fully electric version comes with BYD's second-generation Blade battery and offers megawatt-level fast charging support. The rear-wheel-drive version of the BYD Great Tang delivers 300 kW (402 hp) of power and a CLTC range of up to 950 km. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version completes the 0-100 km/h acceleration in an impressive 3.9 seconds with a maximum power of 585 kW (784 hp), but its range drops to 850 km.
Hybrid Options
On the PHEV side, two different options are offered. The DM-i version provides a 342 km pure electric driving range with a combination of a 154 hp 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine, a 200 kW electric motor, and a 66.4 kWh battery. The DM-p version offers a total of 400 kW of electric support with dual electric motors.
Technology and Driving Dynamics
The Great Tang features:

Thanks to these features, it stands out not only for its performance but also for its driving dynamics. It appears that the new BYD Great Tang will be a highly remarkable model, both for its 950 km range and its features. However, its expected price is considerably higher than its rivals. Time will tell how much this situation will affect its sales.
