Google Chrome Gets a Feature to Speed Up Page Loads

Google Chrome Gets a Feature to Speed Up Page Loads

Google is preparing to roll out a new feature in its Chrome browser to speed up page loads. The company is currently testing a "lazy loading" feature for video and audio content in version 148, which is expected to be released in mid-April.

What is Lazy Loading?

The lazy loading feature ensures that content not immediately visible on the screen (such as images, videos, or audio files further down the page) is only loaded when needed. This allows pages to open faster and use less internet data. For example, when you visit a site, only the visible parts of the content load initially; other content appears sequentially as you scroll down.

Chrome and Chromium-based browsers already have built-in lazy loading support, but this only applies to images and iframes. With the new update, video and audio files will also be included in this scope. However, there will be no change for YouTube videos, as these already use lazy loading because they are loaded via iframes.

The new feature will be available to all users on desktop, Android, and iOS versions. It is also expected to come to other Chromium-based browsers like Microsoft Edge and Vivaldi.
