The new Lord of the Rings film The Hunt for Gollum, arriving years later, will feature a significant change for the series. While names like Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood will return as Gandalf and Frodo, Aragorn will be portrayed by a different actor. After Viggo Mortensen, who played the character in the original series, turned down the offer for this new film, the production team began searching for a new actor and seems to have found the one they were looking for.
Leo Woodall Expected to Play Aragorn in the New Lord of the Rings Film
When it first emerged that the role of Aragorn would be taken on by a different actor, the name Leo Woodall was prominent. What was merely a rumor back then has now largely been confirmed. Elijah Wood confirmed in a podcast this week that Woodall will take over the role of Aragorn. Leo Woodall, a young actor who has recently started making a name for himself, particularly gained attention with his role in The White Lotus series.
In The Hunt for Gollum, which takes place during Frodo's journey from the Shire to Rivendell with his Hobbit companions, characters like Frodo, Gandalf, and Aragorn will play significant roles. The film will focus on Aragorn's efforts, commissioned by Gandalf, to find Gollum before Sauron does. As you may recall, in the first film, Gandalf, realizing that the One Ring, lost for years, might be with Frodo, tasked Aragorn with finding Gollum, fearing he would share this secret with Sauron.
While Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Elijah Wood (Frodo), and Andy Serkis (Gollum) will return in their roles from the original trilogy, renowned actress Kate Winslet will also join the cast as the film's female lead. Andy Serkis, who gained fame for his role as Gollum and later established himself as a director in Hollywood, will also direct the new Lord of the Rings film. Peter Jackson, however, will only serve as a producer on this project. Nevertheless, the screenplay will once again bear the signature of the team that wrote the original trilogy.
