Disney Wants Avatar 4 and 5 to Be Shorter and Have Lower Budgets

Disney Wants Avatar 4 and 5 to Be Shorter and Have Lower Budgets

While it might seem strange to describe a film that grossed 1.48 billion dollars at the box office as a disappointment, this is precisely how Avatar 3 is viewed in Hollywood. Although Avatar 3 (Avatar: Fire and Ash), released in December, earned an amount unimaginable for many films, this figure falling short of the first two films was seen as a kind of disappointment. So much so that there were even talks that Avatar 4 might not be made due to the third film's performance.

Master director James Cameron recently stated in an interview that the probability of Avatar 4 and 5 being made is "very high," effectively refuting these claims. However, Cameron may need to make some significant compromises to complete the series as planned with five films.

Avatar 4 and 5 Could Be Made with Lower Budgets

According to information reported by The Wrap, Disney wants James Cameron to make the new films both shorter and with a lower budget than the first three films.

If you recall, one of the biggest criticisms leveled against the third film was its excessive length. Therefore, Disney's request regarding film durations might please moviegoers. However, the budget issue raises questions about the future of the series. While shortening the films will certainly contribute significantly to reducing the budget, if cuts are not limited to this, Cameron might not be able to give the series the ending he desires.
