Microsoft is Speeding Up Windows 11: Quick Settings and Right-Click Menu Will Open Faster

Microsoft continues its efforts to accelerate Windows 11. The company is reportedly working specifically on making the Quick Settings panel and the right-click menu open faster.

The Quick Settings panel, which opens when you click on the Wi-Fi, sound, or battery icon in the bottom right corner, can sometimes take a few seconds to appear. Moreover, some options within it may load slowly after it opens. The company is reportedly testing a new version that opens much faster.

A Smoother System-Wide Experience is Targeted

In an announcement made on March 20, the company revealed major system improvements to be rolled out throughout 2026. While it was stated that the Start menu, taskbar, and other parts of the system would be made more fluid, the list of these changes is not yet complete. According to the latest information, Quick Settings is also being revamped as part of this comprehensive overhaul.

The company's goal is for the Quick Settings panel and all its buttons to load almost instantly. Currently, when you turn Wi-Fi on or off, or connect to a different network, changes may be slow to reflect in the interface. A similar situation occurs with Bluetooth connections. Microsoft states that it is aware of these issues and is internally testing an update to address them.

With the new version, users will be able to rearrange options in Quick Settings by dragging and dropping. Additionally, it will be possible to directly toggle dark mode via a new sub-section called "Energy Saver." This section will also provide access to settings such as screen brightness, contrast, and power mode.

Microsoft's approach is not just to fix individual bugs but to improve overall system performance. Therefore, the notification center is also being sped up, so alerts will open faster and can be easily dismissed. The aim is also to reduce unnecessary notifications and minimize annoying alerts from Windows Update.

With the 2026 update, changes such as fewer ads and recommendations in the operating system, the ability to move the taskbar, and the simplification of some AI features are also expected. Furthermore, small but noticeable improvements, such as the right-click menu in File Explorer opening faster, will be implemented.

The Settings app will also be reorganized to be simpler and more intuitive. The goal is to reduce reliance on the old Control Panel and move advanced settings to the modern Settings app as much as possible. Although this transition has been ongoing for years, it is not yet complete. For example, some advanced network options still open via the Control Panel.
