This week, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which met with moviegoers, made an impressive start to its box office journey. The 2026 record is no longer held by Project Hail Mary.
Super Mario, one of the most iconic series in gaming history, is also making waves in cinemas. As you may recall, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, released in 2023, achieved success beyond expectations by grossing 1.36 billion dollars at the box office. It appears that this week's sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, will achieve similar success.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Already Reaches 372 Million Dollars in Revenue
Released on April 3rd, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie managed to cross the 300 million dollar threshold in its very first week. The film grossed 190 million dollars in the US and collected an additional 181.8 billion dollars from other countries, reaching a total of 372.6 million dollars in revenue. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie thus became the highest-grossing opening film of 2026. Previously, this record was held by Project Hail Mary.
Adapted from the 2007 Super Mario Galaxy game, the film sees Mario and his friends venturing beyond Earth's boundaries on an adventure across galaxies. As the team progresses through different planets, they encounter new characters and confront a plan that threatens the balance of the universe. Bowser and Bowser Jr.'s attempt to take control plunges Mario and his team into an interstellar struggle. The obstacles and alliances they face along the way require them to act together against an even greater threat this time.
The film's three main characters are once again voiced by Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess), and Charlie Day (Luigi). They are joined in the voice cast by Jack Black, Brie Larson, Keegan-Michael Key, and Michael Richardson.
