Volkswagen Atlas Renewed: New Design, More Luxurious Interior

Volkswagen Atlas Renewed: New Design, More Luxurious Interior

Volkswagen has extensively updated its SUV model, the Atlas, for the North American market. The new Volkswagen Atlas stands out with a more modern design, a completely overhauled interior, and updated engine options.

What Does the New Volkswagen Atlas Offer in Terms of Features?

The Atlas, long positioned as an "average" model in the SUV segment, is moving towards a more assertive line with its new generation. Introduced before the New York Auto Show, the model retains its familiar lines while offering a much sharper and more modern appearance.

The new model features completely redesigned body panels, layered headlight design, a wider front grille, and more muscular fenders. An illuminated Volkswagen logo and a full-width light signature are standard on most versions. Wheel options range from 18 to 21 inches.

Significant Quality Improvement in the Interior

The biggest change in the new Atlas takes place in the cabin. The previously simple interior now boasts a more premium structure. Real wood trim is offered on all versions, while a completely redesigned front console, ambient lighting, and a gear selector moved to the steering column provide a more spacious user area.

Standard features on the entry-level new Volkswagen Atlas include:

  • Power tailgate
  • Rear sunshades
  • Dual wireless charging pad
  • 9-speaker sound system
  • 7 USB-C ports

Higher trim levels offer Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated second-row seats, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and front seats with massage function.

Larger Screens and Advanced Technology

The technology side of the model has also been significantly updated. Most versions feature a 15-inch multimedia screen, while the entry-level model comes with a 12.9-inch screen. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster is standard on all versions.

Furthermore, Volkswagen's IQ.DRIVE semi-autonomous driving system has been enhanced. The system can now change lanes at the driver's command and safely pull the vehicle to the side of the road if the driver fails to respond. The Park Assist Plus system can measure parking spaces to automatically park the vehicle and perform exit maneuvers from the parking space independently when needed.

New Engine: More Power, Less Torque

Under the hood of the new Atlas is the Evo5 version of Volkswagen's current 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, this engine produces 282 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Compared to the previous model, there's a 13 horsepower increase, while the torque value has decreased from 370 Nm to 350 Nm.

The new engine aims to feel more powerful at higher revs while also being more efficient.

Hybrid Version on the Way

Volkswagen also confirmed that it is working on a hybrid version for the Atlas. However, a definitive launch date for this model has not yet been shared.
