Corsair Begins Using Chinese CXMT in its DDR5 RAMs

It has been revealed that US-based hardware manufacturer Corsair is using chips from Chinese DRAM manufacturer CXMT in some of its DDR5 memory modules. This development is considered one of the first concrete examples showing that China-based memory manufacturers are beginning to increase their influence in the global supply chain.

CXMT Signature in Corsair Vengeance DDR5 Series

The module in question is stated to belong to Corsair's gamer-focused Vengeance DDR5 series. The memory module has a capacity of 16 GB and operates at a speed of 6000 MT/s. The product's model number is “CMK5X16G3E60C36A2-CN”.

Looking at the technical details, the module features a design that operates between 1.1V and 1.35V, and it supports both AMD EXPO and Intel XMP profiles. In terms of timing, the module has a CL36 value. These values are on par with similar Corsair Vengeance kits from Samsung and SK hynix.

The most striking detail was the direct mention of CXMT in the manufacturer information on the module. This confirms, for the first time, that a large-scale global memory brand is using Chinese-made DRAM in its consumer-grade DDR5 products.

The transformation in the memory sector is fundamentally driven by investments in artificial intelligence. High-bandwidth memory solutions required for data centers and AI accelerators have pushed traditional DDR5 production to the background. Particularly, the significant production capacity demanded by HBM memory manufacturing has led to supply shortages for manufacturers in the consumer segment.

In this environment, CXMT is aggressively investing in DDR5 production. The company is reported to currently offer DDR5 solutions reaching 8000 MT/s and to have developed DRAM dies with capacities of 16 Gb and 24 Gb.

One of the most significant reasons behind Corsair's shift towards CXMT is believed to be the global DRAM shortage. Additionally, cost advantage is also seen as an important factor.
