Oppo Reno 16 Series Introduced: Here are the Features and Price

Oppo has officially announced its new generation Reno 16 series in China. The Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro models stand out with their high-resolution 200-megapixel camera system, large-capacity batteries, and MediaTek's new generation Dimensity processors. The company aims to offer a more ambitious structure compared to previous Reno models, especially in terms of screen technology, battery capacity, and camera hardware. Both devices have been launched in the Chinese market, with a global launch expected in the summer months.

What does the Reno 16 series offer in terms of camera and hardware?

One of the most striking aspects of the Oppo Reno 16 series is its camera system. Both models feature a 200-megapixel main camera with a Samsung HP5 sensor. In addition to the main camera, there's a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom support. The presence of optical image stabilization technology in the telephoto camera helps achieve more stable images in low light and at high zoom levels.

On the front, both models use a 50-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus support. While smartphone manufacturers have generally focused on software improvements rather than resolution for front cameras in recent years, Oppo's choice of a high-resolution sensor could make these devices stand out, especially for video calls and social media content creation.

There is a significant size difference between the two models in terms of display. The standard Reno 16 model comes with a 6.32-inch flat OLED screen, while the Pro version uses a larger 6.78-inch panel. Both devices offer 120 Hz refresh rate support. Oppo also includes 10-bit color support and high-frequency PWM dimming technology in the displays. In terms of resolution, the Reno 16 model remains at 2640x1216 pixels, while the Pro model offers 2772x1272 pixels. Additionally, the screen brightness can reach a local peak of 3600 nits, significantly improving screen visibility, especially under direct sunlight.

In terms of performance, Oppo seems to have positioned the two models for different user profiles. The Reno 16 features the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 SUPER processor, while the Reno 16 Pro comes with the more powerful Dimensity 9500s platform. Both models use LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage technologies. This hardware combination aims to offer lower latency in application switching and data transfer speeds. The importance of fast storage units is increasingly felt each year, especially in AI-supported camera processing and high-resolution video recording.

Oppo appears to be taking an aggressive approach to battery capacity. The standard Reno 16 model comes with a 6,700 mAh battery, while the Reno 16 Pro model reaches a 7,000 mAh capacity. Both models also feature 80W fast charging support, and the Pro model additionally offers 50W wireless charging support.

In terms of connectivity and durability features, the series aims for current standards. The Reno 16 model offers Wi-Fi 6 support, while the Pro version upgrades to Wi-Fi 7 technology. Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, USB Type-C, stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint reader, and an IR blaster are preserved in both devices. Furthermore, IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications enhance the devices' water and dust resistance levels.

Finally, the Oppo Reno 16, launched in China, has a price of 3,499 CNY (approximately 513 USD) for the 12 GB + 256 GB variant, while the Reno 16 Pro's 12 GB + 256 GB model was announced at 3,699 CNY (approximately 543 USD). The 16 GB + 1 TB version is available for 4,799 CNY (approximately 704 USD) for the Reno 16 and 4,899 CNY (approximately 719 USD) for the Reno 16 Pro.
