The year 2026 is set to be quite fruitful for game adaptations, and one of the titles hitting cinemas will be the new Street Fighter movie. This new version, which stands apart from previous Street Fighter films due to its casting choices and peculiar tone, is scheduled to be released on October 16th.
As the release date for Street Fighter approaches, Paramount has continued its promotional efforts, sharing the first clip from the film today. With this nearly one-minute clip, we had a clear chance to see Jason Momoa, who portrays Blanka. In the clip, Ryu and Blanka face off in an electrically charged battle.
Street Fighter Movie to be Released on October 16th
The new Street Fighter film appears to draw inspiration from franchises like Deadpool and Fast & Furious. At least, the trailers released so far suggest this. Unlike the Mortal Kombat film, which adopted a darker, more stylized tone, Street Fighter prioritizes fun and over-the-top action.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip), the new Street Fighter film is set in 1993 and focuses on Ryu and Ken, two fighters whose paths diverged some time ago. When Chun-Li invites both of them to a new fighting tournament, the old friends' paths cross once more. However, when a deadly conspiracy behind the tournament is revealed, pitting them against each other, their old friendships are put to the test.
The film's cast includes surprising choices such as American wrestlers, rappers, and comedians, in addition to actors like Jason Momoa. The characters in the film and the names portraying them are as follows:
