Striking claims have emerged regarding the in-house test results for Samsung's next-generation Exynos 2700 processor. According to these claims, Samsung's chip surpassed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series in CPU, GPU, NPU, and power efficiency tests.
Exynos 2700 Compared to Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro
For those who missed it, Qualcomm had previously confirmed that it would offer two different Elite processors in the next generation. These are temporarily expected to be named Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Additionally, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6, which does not carry the Elite branding, will be positioned as a separate model.
According to the alleged results, the Exynos 2700 achieved a 9.5% higher score than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and a 19% higher score than the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 in the Geekbench 6.5 multi-core test. The name of the GPU test used was not disclosed, but the Exynos 2700 is claimed to show 5% higher performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.
In the 2.5W power limit test conducted to measure lower power consumption, Samsung's chip achieved 22% higher results than the Elite Gen 6 Pro and 24% higher results than the standard Elite Gen 6. In a test simulating a real-world usage scenario, the Exynos 2700 was reported to draw 161 mA, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro drew 185 mA.
In terms of AI performance, in a test conducted with the Llama 3.1 8B model, the Exynos 2700 generated responses 18% faster compared to the Snapdragon processor. If these claims prove true, the likelihood of the Galaxy S27 series being offered with the Exynos 2700 processor in some markets, especially South Korea and Europe, could increase. However, whether this will materialize depends on the final performance and power consumption of the processor in mass-produced hardware.
The Exynos 2700 will be manufactured using Samsung Foundry's second-generation 2 nm Gate-All-Around (GAA) manufacturing process, known as SF2P. The processor's success in terms of performance and efficiency is also crucial for Samsung to showcase its 2 nm production technology to potential clients.
