CD Projekt Red has announced that the **The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered** version will be released on **September 29** for **PC, PlayStation 5**, and **Xbox Series X|S**. The update will be offered **free of charge to existing owners** of the game and will bring numerous new features in addition to visual enhancements.
Packed with Innovations
The Remastered version, announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, will adapt the game's graphics to modern systems and introduce extensive changes to gameplay. The combat system, movement and traversal mechanics, horseback riding, monster behaviors, and skill tree will all be re-evaluated.
The game will also add a new armor transmog feature, new finishing moves, and an expanded photo mode. New sound effects will be used for some abilities.
One of the most notable innovations of the Remastered version will be cross-platform mod support. Additionally, a new quest tracking system, a more immersive meditation experience, revamped animations, and an improved user interface will be offered.
The looting system will also be overhauled, and motion blur will be renewed. New accessibility options, updated tutorial sections, refreshed menu animations, and improved textures will also be part of the update.
On the graphics front, HDR enhancements, re-rendered foliage shading, ray tracing improvements, revamped global illumination, a new shading model, subsurface scattering, and a new tone mapper will be utilized. The game will also feature ray-traced hair technology.
On the PC side, support for **Nvidia DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4, and Intel XeSS 2.0** will be provided. In addition, path tracing, ray reconstruction, native DirectX 12 support, and parallelization in rendering processes will be implemented.
The existing Nintendo Switch version of The Witcher 3 will not receive the Remastered update. Instead, a native Remastered version specifically for Nintendo Switch 2 will be sold. Owners of the Switch 1 version will be able to acquire the Switch 2 version for free.
Furthermore, **owners of the base game** will also gain **free access** to the previously released **Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine** expansions.
Songs of the Past Arrives in 2027
The release of the Remastered version will be independent of Songs of the Past, the new expansion pack prepared for The Witcher 3. The expansion, planned for release in 2027, will tell a new adventure of Geralt of Rivia and will not be available at the launch of the Remastered version, but will be supported by it later.
The first teaser trailer for Songs of the Past was also shown at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The expansion pack will feature a new region called **Letten**.
In this region, Geralt will pursue a long-dormant evil, battling enemies and monsters he has not encountered before. The new region will include quests, exploration opportunities, and adventures, as well as new monsters.
One of the most striking details in the Songs of the Past trailer was Geralt's **new chain weapon**. The trailer shows Geralt pulling an enemy towards him with the chain and then decapitating them.
Miles Tost from CD Projekt Red's design team stated that this weapon is actually familiar from the first game in the series. The chain weapon was previously shown at the beginning of The Witcher 1 but was not used as a playable weapon in The Witcher 3. It will be remembered that Ciri also used a chain weapon in The Witcher 4 trailer.
According to Tost, Songs of the Past will be Geralt's **last adventure** before The Witcher 4, where Ciri will take over the lead role.
The exact release date for Songs of the Past has not yet been announced. The expansion pack is expected to be released in **2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2**.
The Witcher 4 Targeted for 2028
CD Projekt Red did not make a new presentation about The Witcher 4 at the Gamescom event. However, the company had previously announced that the new game, starring Ciri, is targeted for release in **2028**.
