The Honor Magic 9 series is set to introduce a striking new selfie camera design among Android phones. The company has confirmed that the series will feature a 55-megapixel "Agile Eye" front camera designed in a square form. Honor states that this structure provides a larger area for the sensor compared to traditional circular or pill-shaped camera designs, helping to capture a wider frame.
ARRI Partnership Changes the Direction of the Camera System
The design of the new front camera differs not only in resolution but also in its usage. A promotional video shared by Honor shows the camera being able to switch between vertical and horizontal shots while maintaining a wide field of view.
Honor also announced that the 55 MP square selfie camera will not be available on all models of the Magic 9 series. According to the company's promotional notes, this camera will only be used in the Magic 9 Pro Max and standard Magic 9 models. Details regarding which front camera hardware will be preferred in other members of the series have not yet been shared.
The Magic 9 series' camera approach is not limited to the front camera alone. Honor had previously confirmed that the series would come with a 500mm teleconverter kit and use a triple camera system on the rear, featuring two 200-megapixel ARRI sensors. The company's collaboration with ARRI indicates that the Magic 9 series will focus on professional video recording features in addition to high-resolution sensors.
A new ARRI Cinema Mode is planned to be added to the Magic 9 series for video. This mode aims to combine the phone's camera hardware with ARRI's imaging approach in the cinematic field. The top model of the series, the Magic 9 Pro Max, features a new design philosophy that distinguishes it from previous Magic models, despite the camera hardware changes. Honor has re-evaluated the phone's edges, back panel, and overall body shape, while also redesigning the rear camera module with a new design called "Guide Eye". This design is said to be inspired by one of the ARRIFLEX 35 models, which holds a significant place in the development of ARRI's cinema cameras.
