Indeed, the third episode set a new record for the series, reaching 10 million viewers in its first three days. HBO also announced that the first episode's viewership has now reached 20 million, indicating that more and more viewers are becoming aware of the series and giving it a chance.
The positive reviews comparing Lanterns to True Detective rather than typical superhero shows have greatly contributed to its success. The series, crafted by three accomplished names – Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers, Watchmen), Chris Mundy, and Tom King – has managed to captivate many with its first three episodes.
Lanterns focuses on two Green Lanterns, galactic police officers, conducting an investigation on Earth. As they try to solve a mystery in the heart of America, they also have to learn to cope with this seasoned cop-young rookie dynamic.
Kyle Chandler portrays Hal Jordan in the series, and Aaron Pierre plays John Stewart. They are joined by a cast including Nathan Fillion, Kelly Macdonald, Jason Ritter, Garret Dillahunt, and Ulrich Thomsen. Fillion returns as Guy Gardner, a character he also played in the Superman movie.
