Samsung is discontinuing software support for three devices: two foldable phones and one Galaxy Watch model. These devices will no longer receive even security updates.
Samsung is ending software support for several Galaxy devices this month. The Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Watch 4 series, launched in 2021, have completed their five-year update lifecycle. Samsung has also transitioned the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 models, which it supported with monthly updates for four years, to a quarterly update cycle.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, Fold 3, and Flip 3 Will No Longer Receive Updates
Most Galaxy smartphones released before 2024 fall under Samsung's "4+1" update policy. The company offers four major operating system upgrades in addition to one more year of security updates. Depending on the price segment, updates are provided monthly or quarterly for the first four years, and then quarterly in the final year. Galaxy watches always receive updates on a quarterly basis, and Samsung guarantees four years of support for its watches.
Samsung's new support policy offers seven years of feature and security updates for flagship models, and six years for budget-friendly and mid-range devices. New Galaxy watches now receive five years of update support.
As of September 2026, the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Flip 3, Watch 4, and Watch 4 Classic models have completed their five-year lifecycle in the market. During this period, they received regular feature and security updates in accordance with Samsung's policy. Samsung has now removed these devices from the security update list, thereby ending software support.
From a user perspective, there will be no change in daily usage. The devices will continue to function but will be vulnerable to the latest security flaws.
The End is Also Nearing for Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 models have entered a quarterly update cycle. With official support expected to end in September 2027, these devices are also nearing the end of their lifecycle.
