SpaceX plans to conduct the 14th test flight of its giant Starship rocket on September 22, 2026. In this mission, the company aims to successfully place the rocket's upper stage into Earth orbit for the first time. The flight will also carry a commercial payload for the first time, sending 26 next-generation Starlink V3 satellites into space.
A 75-minute launch window has been reserved at the Starbase facility in South Texas. This window is scheduled to open at 3:15 PM Turkish time.
Starlink V3 to offer 100 times higher bandwidth
SpaceX will deploy the first operational group of Starlink V3 satellites as part of the mission. Starship will carry a total of 26 satellites in this launch, directly contributing to the company's internet infrastructure for the first time.
According to Elon Musk's statements, the Starlink V3 hardware is designed to offer over 100 times higher bandwidth capacity compared to the existing V2 satellites launched with Falcon 9 rockets.
One of the significant factors behind this capacity increase is Starship's large payload fairing. The large volume allows for the transport of bigger, heavier, and more powerful satellite designs.
According to Starlink's official technical specifications, the V3 system is equipped with advanced phased array antennas and high-capacity space lasers. These components will enable the creation of a petabit-scale laser network.
The system aims to establish a more efficient communication infrastructure through laser links between satellites. With this structure, SpaceX plans to provide more effective service simultaneously to users in both densely and sparsely populated regions worldwide.
Unlike previous test flights, SpaceX will not attempt to catch the Super Heavy booster or Starship's upper stage during the flight. Instead, the company will focus on the launch and orbital insertion phases.
