Samsung One UI 9.0: First Images Shared

Samsung One UI 9.0: First Images Shared

While Samsung has completed the rollout of One UI 8.0 and One UI 8.5 is still in the testing phase, the company has begun early development for One UI 9.0, based on Android 17. Internal firmware leaks indicate that the new version is starting to take shape, even though it's still months away. Recently, the first images from this new update have been shared.

Android 17 and New AI Integration

According to Samsung's timeline, One UI 9.0 is expected to make its official debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, which are anticipated to be introduced in mid-2026. On the interface side, the floating action elements introduced with 8.5 are retained in the new version. However, a more modern design language has been adopted for the page background graphics.

In the upper section, a back arrow icon is located on the left, while a menu providing access to additional options is on the right. The general approach is centered on simplification and visual consistency.

The most notable innovation has been made in the Samsung Internet application. A new viewing option called "Compact" is being tested in early versions of One UI 9.0. This mode offers a more immersive interface while reorganizing the bottom navigation bar. Search, recent tabs, and menu access are consolidated into a single structure, where an "Ask AI" button will be located.

The "Ask AI" feature is stated to operate on the Perplexity AI infrastructure. The system is not limited to merely summarizing pages; it can analyze content context and answer questions. In some scenarios, its features also include making price comparisons by considering browsing history or compiling key takeaways from long articles. Responses are presented in a chat-like interface, and past conversations can be managed within privacy guidelines. The feature is initially expected to be limited to Galaxy AI-supported flagship models.
