For the past few days, many users in the YouTube community on Reddit have reported encountering a "Comments are turned off" warning beneath videos. According to these posts, this situation is not limited to individual videos but is observed across a wide range of content. Dozens of users confirming the same problem indicate its widespread nature.
The issue is not confined to comments alone. Some users also state that video descriptions are hidden. Similar complaints are being voiced on X (formerly Twitter) in addition to Reddit.
Common Denominator: Ad Blockers
Upon reviewing user comments, the common element in most complaints appears to be the use of ad blockers. Even some individuals using the Brave browser, known for its built-in ad and tracker blocking features, are reporting similar problems.
According to forum and social media posts, comments and descriptions reappearing when ad blockers are disabled strengthens the claims that YouTube is taking this step intentionally. Interestingly, it is also noted that some YouTube Premium subscribers can be affected by this issue if they use ad blockers.
YouTube's Struggle Against Ad Blockers Continues
This development is not YouTube's first step against ad blockers. The platform has previously warned users to disable ad blockers and, in some cases, even restricted access on browsers with built-in blockers. Additionally, features like background playback on Android were prevented from being used through alternative methods.
Currently, this measure does not encompass all ad blocker users. Tests have shown instances where comment and description sections are displayed without issues. However, the increasing number of complaints suggests that the implementation could spread more widely.
