Minister Çiftçi Makes New Statement Regarding Multimedia Systems and APP License Plates

Minister Çiftçi Makes New Statement Regarding Multimedia Systems and APP License Plates

Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi reminded drivers using APP license plates that the grace period ended on April 1st, emphasizing that these plates must now be replaced. Drawing attention to the fact that APP license plates do not carry security features, Minister Çiftçi stated that their use is "not in good faith" and poses a risk to public order.

How will APP license plates be replaced?

Minister Çiftçi also explained the step-by-step process that users of APP license plates must follow:

  • First, a "lost license plate" record must be created by applying to law enforcement.
  • Subsequently, a new license plate application will be made at a notary public.
  • Finally, standard license plates will be printed through the Chamber of Drivers.

Çiftçi stated that with the completion of this process, citizens will not be victimized, and the system will become secure.

New era in multimedia systems

Minister Çiftçi's agenda also included multimedia systems in vehicles. It is known that a new regulation is being prepared for screen and sound systems that distract drivers during operation. Two main criteria stand out in the upcoming regulation:

  • The driver's field of vision must not be obstructed.
  • Distraction must be prevented.

"For now, no penalties, only guidance"

Çiftçi stated that no penalties would be applied until the new regulation comes into force, and drivers would be guided during this period. The regulation is planned to be finalized by the end of April and implemented in May. This regulation will clearly and understandably specify which visual and audio systems are unlawful.

Çiftçi also drew attention to the misuse of in-car screens, emphasizing that behaviors such as watching videos while driving pose a serious risk. He stated that the main purpose of all regulations is to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities.
